EXCEPTIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP
France is renowned worldwide for its luxury leather craftsmanship. This excellence is carried by the men and women who have learned the noble art of working with leather through rigorous training and years of experience.
At DE GRIMM, this artisanal heritage is upheld by Olivier Massip, a master artisan who completed the prestigious Compagnons du Devoir tour of France and has dedicated 30 years of his career to luxury leather goods.
His strengths lie first in his high standards of execution, and second in his mastery of all aspects of the craft: design, pattern-making, material and accessory selection, cutting, hand saddle stitching, machine sewing, assembly, and finishing.
He brings his expertise to the DE GRIMM workshop, located in the heart of Bordeaux, following traditional manufacturing methods to create handbags that spark desire and radiate quality at first glance.

FRENCH MANUFACTURING
"Made in France" is a popular label—but how much of a product must be made domestically for it to be genuine? At DE GRIMM, no step is outsourced. Every stage is carried out in our Bordeaux workshop, the brand's birthplace since 1945.
This is a point of pride for our family business, which offers handbags crafted with exceptional skill. In an era of global product standardization, you’ll only find a DE GRIMM bag in our Bordeaux boutique or on our online store.
Great care is taken in sourcing raw materials and accessories, with no compromise. Although we aim for local sourcing, full procurement within France is not always feasible. We work with suppliers based in the Paris region and the Basque Country.
All premium and exotic leathers come from renowned tanneries in France, Spain, and Italy.
Accessories are made in France and Italy. Zippers come from Japan and Italy.
Thread is sourced from Germany. Cotton linings with anti-fray treatments are woven in Italy.
THE ETHICS OF KNOWLEDGE TRANSMISSION
Olivier often repeats this saying dear to the Compagnons du Devoir: “Know-how doesn't belong to us, it must be passed on.” Throughout his long career, Olivier has taught leatherworking in a vocational school, actively supports aspiring Compagnons, and provides training at an Hermès production center as an external expert.
Naturally, he is the one who trains new arrivals at the DE GRIMM workshop—whether they're career changers or young apprentices passing through Bordeaux during their Compagnons' tour of France.
The beauty of “Made in France” lies in creating local jobs and preserving skills for future generations. Unfortunately, current demand far exceeds the capacity of the DE GRIMM workshop.
